Community / support / How to search a file in a folder
Avatar
Hello, I tried testing the search function by entering a file name that I copied from an existing file in a folder. However, the progress indicator kept running and displayed 'No Matches Found.' It suggested trying another search with a different query or file type or rebuilding the search index. Is there something wrong ? Can search files across folders? Do I need to rebuild the index every time I use the search function?

Thanks for your report.
However, the progress indicator kept running and displayed 'No Matches Found.'
That's unusual. How long the indicator kept running before displaying: 'No Matches Found.' ? Was it instant? Has your file some special characters inside: !@#$%^&*()_+ etc. or spaces or whitespaces? It should work regardless, but I am trying to troubleshoot the issue.
Can search files across folders?
It should be possible. That's really the use case for the search.
Do I need to rebuild the index every time I use the search function?
You only need to rebuild the index to pick-up any changes since last rebuild. In the future we shall be able to apply diff on the index and rebuild only recent changes, so no full rebuild is required.
Is there something wrong ?
I suspect this is related to your other issue with the Sort when search index isn't rebuilt properly: https://discord.com/channels/1069654792902815845/1273004429246861333 Basically both search and sort require indexing process to be finished before displaying reliable results. I hope to get back to you on your other issue later today, so we can carry on troubleshooting the indexing issue.
